Sensory Analysis

With modern day industries becoming ever more competitive, today’s companies have to strive to offer the best price and quality on a continual basis. At the same time it is no longer enough to sit back on the laurels of an established brand; to hold the consumer’s attention there needs to be a constant stream of new and innovative products.

In order to determine how your product is seen in comparison to others it is vital to know how the product is perceived in terms of its sensory properties; i.e. in terms of its appearance, aroma, taste or feel. All consumers make assessments on sensory properties either consciously or subconsciously, and their judgements affect both their liking of the product and their willingness to purchase.

Sensory evaluation can be defined as a scientific method used to evoke, measure, analyse and interpret responses to products as perceived through the senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing.

At WSS we fully recognize that sensory testing has advanced well beyond the stage where sensory professionals were simply called upon to provide ‘taste tests’ followed by statistical summaries of the results. We offer meaningful interpretation of sensory data which leads directly to a clear plan of action for product optimisation.
